You'll also be able to select which weapon you'll use, rather than simply happening upon upgrades on the map. ![]() When you're playing with a group, it looks like you'll be deciding by committee which branch you'll take by shooting in your vote to the appropriate quadrant of the screen. Though it's not quite a first for the genre, there will be branching paths that you can take throughout each individual scenario (there are three "levels" in total). AM2 is messing around with the light-gun scheme a little bit in this one. Indeed, every element of its story is patently absurd, and I'm not sure that this is by design. ![]() You play as a member of the titular black ops squadron, and your job is to foil the machinations of a terrorist group called the Indigo Wolves, led by a guy named Alex Havoc. It's basically Virtua Cop meets Rainbow Six, with a narrative that was apparently conceived by a game designer from 1988. In any case, you probably have a good idea what Ghost Squad is like. The moment when games like this will be available as budget downloads can't be too far off. At the same time, though, I have trouble with the fact that Ghost Squad will command a full retail price. The on-rails simplicity of these sorts of games hearkens back to a simpler time in gaming, when your overriding priority was simply to shoot at things, rather than conceptualize how you'd shoot at them. After seeing Ghost Squad yesterday - AM2's latest light-gun shooter, in the grand tradition of Virtua Cop - I came away suitably exhilarated. So in spite of its paradigm-challenging potential, we can be certain of one thing: the Wii is probably the best system out there for classic light-gun games. Upon further reflection, I came to the realization that they're probably more complicit than I originally imagined. This made me wonder how the thoughtful designers behind this device felt about all the game developers out there content to force upon it the base functionality of Nintendo's fourth-least used legacy peripheral - the Zapper light gun. Players will also unlock a variety of alternate routes, different player choice scenarios, and secret weapons and costumes.With the Wiimote, Nintendo has gone a long way towards redefining the apparatus that we use to interact with our games.
